Meaningful Meanders: the Tour - Leg 3
Copenhagen, Denmark / Malmö, Sweden
I traveled to Copenhagen to discover its sustainable concepts on environment, economy and social responsibility, and its equity on genders, races and transportation.
I didn’t have any local friend there like I have in other countries I visited. That leads me to use Airbnb Experiences to meet locals and ask them questions about this country.
My sister joined my Scandinavian adventure and we got to participate in three Airbnb Experiences. Our local guides took us to many cool spots around the city and we learned so much about the things we saw and places we stood.
I thought I can get away from the heat since it’s Northern Europe, however, Copenhagen experienced a major drought this summer, so as most countries in Europe.
In our Airbnb Experiences, we visited the fascinating neighborhood of Nørrebro, its diverse population inspired artists and architects to build the iconic Superkilen Park! There are different artifacts from all over the globe representing over 60 nationalities that live in this neighborhood. We found a juice bar sign from Taiwan that we were super excited about.
We had the opportunity to visit a Danish family and learned about their housing design and regulations that typical tourists won’t experience!
We joined a bike tour that dedicated to explore Copenhagen’s urban design and street art. Our local guide, who is an urban planner, photographer and a French, took us to many secret artsy spots and explained the historical significance and future plans.
As a foodie and environmental conscious world citizen, I really enjoyed our experience with Heather through Airbnb Experience that we had a 3 hour conversation about food and its connection between human, economy and nature, and also the New Nordic Food Movement!
Only a bridge away, we visited a Swedish town named Malmö. My sister and I got to do some sibling bonding through shopping, picture taking and eating those amazing Swedish meatballs!

Meaningful Meanders: the Tour - Leg 2
Gouda/Arnhem/Nijmegen, the Netherlands
The highlight of my trip in the Netherlands was the 3 days I spent with Mark!
Before meeting Mark in Arnhem, I went to Gouda to visit its weekly(April~August) Cheese Market!
Gouda is not only the hometown for Gouda cheese but also the iconic Dutch dessert, stroopwaffel! The cheese trading culture was so exciting and unique that keep us visitors entertained, so as its attractive cityscape and traditions!
Mark (aka the most friendly local in the Netherlands) invited me to explore the eastern part of Netherlands that most tourists wouldn’t go!
I got to visit the oldest city in the Netherlands, Nijmegen, and I participated in the last day of the annual music/walking festival, Vierdaagsefeesten! There were like more than 10 stages around the city, the whole city was literally PARTYING, I had lots of fun with Mark and his friends!
Mark and I had lots of fun exploring Arnhem and I got to let him see his city through my lenses!
We spent a lot of time in his apartment cooking, trying Dutch food and exchanging culture and music taste, to keep us from going outside because of the HEAT! (Check out our Dutch Food Taste Test here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJ0khstdp3s)
Thank you Isabelle for connecting us to create this EPIC #MeaningfulMeanders , I can’t wait to meet Mark again (maybe in Taiwan?!) to continue our #MeaningifulMeanders!
Meaningful Meanders: the Tour - Leg 2
Amsterdam, the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Amsterdam is my favorite city from my Europe trip
The cityscape, the bikes, the canals, the food, the art, the architecture and the people just make this city so magical and comfortable for travelers to visit!
I fell in love with fries w/ oorlog sauce, herring and the poffertjes!!! It’s a foodie heaven for me because the food there is so affordable and delicious!
One of the reason for my Amsterdam trip is to check out its transportation accessibility! Bike lanes are EVERYWHERE and EVERYBODY bikes!!! The trams, buses and trains take you anywhere you want to go!!!
I chose to stay at a hostel that is located 30min away from the city and it was the right choice!
I got to feel like a local every morning and night commuting from the town to city, plus the scenery on the bus ride was incredible(farms, cows, and sunset)!!!
I had my first Airbnb experience with Captain Dave on his early morning canal tour, we were the only boat on the canals and it was AWESOME!!! Captain Dave’s sense of humor was just on point that make us all enjoy the canal tour and learn more about Amsterdam in a magical timing and setting!
I also used meetup.com to join an 1 hour bootcamp at Vondel Park, it was super INTENSE that I almost died in Amsterdam, but I got to burn all those calories and friended with some locals!
p.s. Van Gogh museum was worth to visit, I got to learn so much about Vincent and many of his incredible works!!!
